Students generally correlate scholarships to those sanctioned by large academic institutions and the big companies. Students generally consider or apply scholarships that are sanctioned in the name of big academic achievers and these scholarships normally receive close to one million applications each year. There are easier ways to acquire scholarships and one should look for such close to their homes.

Students can get scholarships in their respective colleges or universities as they offer a minimum of a scholarship every academic year. In case you happen to join big institutions, you may be entitled to scholarships issued by every department. These scholarships are offered in the name of the alumni recognizing academic achievements, outstanding talents and other specific scholarships. This opens the choice for students to apply for more than a scholarship every year.

Very few students apply for scholarships offered by the institutions and most go in for scholarship programs that are nationally popular. In fact institutions also offer lot of scholarships these days. Among these, only some of them might be the so-called full scholarships. It is always better to get something instead of nothing and thus minor scholarships that cover housing and study materials will help you save little.

The University of North Carolina which is situated at the Chapel Hill is a good example of the kind of scholarships proffered at the big universities. This university maintains a department that caters to the issue of scholarship and financial assistance. The department has advisers who will guide you in case you are on the look out for scholarships, be it a need based one, non- need based one and other sources of aid. They also provide more data about merit based scholarship. Their web site is replete with information about the kind of support the university offers to each of its students. This is what is practiced at such big institutions. A lot of packages are offered to students to enable them to complete their graduation.

The process of applying for a scholarship through the college is very identical to the one that is followed to get scholarships from the outside world. There may be slight variations in the terms and conditions of the scholarship agreements between various institutions and the students are required to read through the information fully before signing the agreement as it is not the same across all colleges. You must consider the eligibility criteria and you are assisted with a lot of online calculators though one can be found near the application instruction of an online scholarship.

Scholarships offered by the institutions come with a lot of unique benefits. You would be left hanging in case you apply for a scholarship that is recognized nation wide and this can be used any where without much formalities. If you go in for a scholarship that is offered by the institution, the number of applications received is less and the college finishes the sorting process very fast and the college comes out with the sanctions pretty fast when compared to the nationally sanctioned scholarships.

Another benefit of obtaining institution offered scholarship is that in case you do not qualify for one, you will become aware of the procedure for application and this will be a prelude if you need to go in for one the next year. The knowledge about the process of obtaining scholarship can be acquired and this will come handy if you want to go in for one in the following year and this should be the approach in case you are not sanctioned a scholarship.

Students do not lose anything by applying to a scholarship that is offered by the institution. The numbers of competitors are also more in case you apply for a nation wide scholarship and this can be more difficult.

If you’re an aspiring art major, there’s little doubt that you’re considering attending one of the many art institutes that are out there. But there are so very many, how can you be sure you choose the right art institute to suit your needs, and meet your goals? There is probably at least one well known art institute in every one of the continental United States, and that’s a lot of art schools to choose from!

Pick a State, Any State!

Just for starters, here is a short list of well known and highly desired art institutes:

Art Institute Of Atlanta

Art Institute Of Boston

Art Institute Of California Los Angeles

Art Institute Of California Orange County

Art Institute Of California San Diego

Art Institute Of California San Francisco

Art Institute Of Charlotte

Art Institute Of Chicago

Art Institute Of Cincinnati

Art Institute Of Colorado

Art Institute Of Dallas

Art Institute Of Denver

Art Institute Of Fort Lauderdale

Art Institute Of Houston

Art Institute Of Las Vegas

Art Institute Of Los Angeles

Art Institute Of Miami

Art Institute Of New York

Art Institute Of Philadelphia

And the list hardly stops there. With so many art institutes and universities to choose from, how does the aspiring art student choose? Well here are a few things to keep in mind that you may not consider, because they are not usually discussed when talking about what art school to attend:

Homesick Sweet Homesick

If you’re going to be selecting an art school that is far from your familiar home surroundings, consider if that is something that will sit well with you or not. You won’t be able to function at peak productivity if you’re constantly pining for familiarity. Attending any university out of town (whether or not it’s an art school) is going to require the student to be willing to explore, make new friends, and otherwise potentially stray outside their comfort zone. Simply running home any time you miss your favorite meal may not be an option if you’re 2000 miles away, for example.

Never Underestimate The Power Of Activism.

Art schools in particular seem to attract more than their fair share of “bleeders”, and by that I mean “bleeding liberals” or “bleeding hearts” or “bleeding radicals” and other such “activists.” These people can get very draining, and have a tendency to stifle the creativity that you expect from an art university. After paying so much money to attend an acclaimed art institute, why would you want someone like that to waste your time? Beware of these people and the reputation you can inherit by association.

Those Who Can, Do. Those Who Can’t, Teach.

The above is perhaps an overly harsh statement in many cases, but when it comes to teachers in an art school environment, I’ve found it to be very true. So many University professors are bitter, washed-up has-beens (or more likely, “never-weres). If they were any good, they’d have been successful artists rather than teachers barely making a living. They can be very bitter if they have a budding protege on their hands in their art classes, and often attempt to crush the creative spirit of the new students. Much like with the bleeders, you must not allow these curmudgeons to get you down. You paid a lot of money (or worked hard for that scholarship) to attend an art institute, and you deserve to get all you can out of it and express your truest, deepest creative spirit!

Bottom Line – It’s Your Art School. Make The Most Of It!

This is your time. Your art. Your school. Your expression. Your future! Make sure your years at art school [http://lasertargeted.com/artinstitute/top-10-art-schools.html] are not wasted. Paint, draw, sculpt, model, program. Whatever your particular form of artistic expression is, the art school is there to nurture and further it. Make sure you get out what you deserve, and light up the world with the art only you can bring to it!

More of her research and articles can be found at www.lasertargeted.com/artinstitute [http://www.lasertargeted.com/artinstitute] and other sites around the internet.

You love to cook, you love food and you want to make a career in the culinary arts, but you don’t know how you can afford to go to a culinary institute. The usual route to financing any scholastic endeavor is through student loans and you may have already tapped that source. Another way to finance your education is through scholarships.

Landing a culinary institute scholarship isn’t as difficult as it sounds. It’s not overly easy either. You’ll have to do your part and put some effort into searching one out. Hundreds of opportunities are there for the taking. The trick is to know where to look. These opportunities won’t come to you. No one is going to wake up one morning and hand out culinary institute scholarships to anyone who asks. Securing a scholarship takes time and effort on your part and the results are more than worth it.

You will need to know where to look, so the first thing to do is gather up your resources and build a file with a list of places. The phone book is always a good start for locating a cooking school near you. The Internet is even better. Do a search on schools, colleges and universities. Don’t rule out continuing education, night classes and online classes as keywords to use in your search.

There are many other sources to include when searching for the best school. The following is just a sampling of sources.

High schools: Whether you’re still in high school or not, guidance counselors have many resources at their fingertips and it’s worth talking to one of them. If they can’t help you directly, they can certainly point you in the right direction.

Universities: Many culinary institutes offer scholarships to students already attending and there are some that also provide scholarships to those wishing to attend. Talk to the financial aid department. Scholarships are not something most schools put right out in plain view. Unless you ask for it, the school isn’t going to volunteer the information.

Your current employer: If you’re already working in the cooking industry, some employers offer to pay for furthering your education. Talk to your Human Resources department and find out what programs are available.

Community groups: Check out the local cooking clubs and other community groups in your area. While these groups may not be directly involved with a culinary institute, some members might have had scholarships themselves. Use someone else’s experience to your advantage and don’t be afraid to pick a few brains.

Culinary organizations: Sometimes it pays to go right to the source. Many culinary institutes regard this as good public relations. They want to promote their craft and are on the look out for fresh talent. You may have to go beyond the web page and actually call these places, send a letter, or email requesting information on scholarships.

Big business sponsorship: Many big businesses in specific industries make large contributions to scholarship programs. If they don’t offer the funding to the students directly, they may make donations to the schools. Companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi have their own foundations set up, as do many others. Again, it takes some digging, but the results are well worth the effort.

Keep in mind that knowing where to look is as important as when to look. Starting a month or two before the next semester begins is already too late. This type of planning starts at least a year or two in advance. Take a look at where the awards went and to whom. Make a checklist with everything you need to do to fulfill all the requirements. Create a timetable for yourself so you don’t miss a thing.

A scholarship may not provide you with complete funding for your entire education, but it will give you a head start. You might end up finding a few small scholarships that are only a couple of hundred dollars. Don’t turn your nose up at these either. It all helps, even if it just covers the cost of your books or tools. Keep looking and stay focused.
